Itinerary
We meet our fellow travellers and Tour Manager at London Heathrow airport ready to board our flight.
Travelling, we can begin to look forward to our southeast Asian adventure that will take in the delights for which Vietnam and Cambodia are renowned. An S-shaped strip of land, Vietnam winds down the coast of the South China Sea for more than a thousand miles. It has become a bucket-list destination for many people who are drawn to the country's golden sand beaches, lush jungle and delicious cuisine. Neighbouring Cambodia also borders Thailand and is renowned for its capital, Phnom Penh, a modern city awash with ancient and 20th-century history, and the sprawling Khmer temples around Siem Reap.

Wonderful experience. Jam packed itinerary with excellent guides. Beautiful hotels and service. Great food and a lovely group of people. The tour manager was both friendly and professional. Excellent value for money and thoroughly enjoyable. Yes, the train journeys are long and most days we had early starts. You do need a good level of fitness but there was also ample opportunity for those wishing to take it at a slower pace. For me, the schedule was great. The two days of back to back train travel were rather tedious but essentially were a means to an end. It would have been nice to spend a couple of extra days at some of the beautiful hotels but that would mean extending the holiday.

Excellent trip. Professional tour guide and knowledgeable local guides. Some rail journeys need tweaking but I understand GRJ has this in hand

Overall, it was a superb experience. Seamlessly organised, the sightseeing and experiences were fantastic. Hotels as always were a superb choice and felt luxurious. They reflected the cost of the holiday well and we felt 'wow!' Each time we arrived at the next hotel. The only negative comment, would be the first local guide Nhat didn't wait for everyone to catch up before telling us about each element within the tour. We often didn't get to hear an explanation of each site, before moving on to the next place. The demographic for the tour was around 65-70 and it takes us a while to walk to the next place and to catch the tour guide up! Our next guide Lim was superb and offered a deep insight into Vietnam and it's past. He spent a lot of time explaing Vietnams past and present which was well received by us. A full emersion into the Halong Bay overnight cruise, overnight on the Reunification Express were the best experiences and a tour that we will always remember.

There is a lot put into this tour, but it's all the better for it. You get to see and do a lot, the rail journeys are long and the trains basic, but you feel pleased that you experienced it. Coach excursions are well organised and local guides provided everywhere, as well as your full time UK Tour Manager. You can take time off from specific outings if you want to, we did our own thing exploring Saigon. We really experienced Vietnam and Cambodia. I couldn't really improve it. Good value too. But don't attempt it if you can't walk a few miles at a good pace.

Excellent trip very well organised - but remember it’s not a holiday it’s an adventure - lots early mornings and long days - tour manager Lydia was professional and friendly - good hotels and included meals - my only comment would be I wish they would cap guests to 25.

A full on trip which we were expecting but very interesting and enjoyable. The organisation and hotels we had were fantastic. The group of 37 was large but we all got on so well which made it the more memorable. Our tour guides were knowledgeable and Lydia Boyd our tour representative was excellent. Thank you so much, we hope to use Great Rail Journeys again.
